CMA starts competition law investigation into pharmaceutical sector

The Competition and Markets Authority has commenced an investigation into a suspected breach of competition law in the pharmaceutical sector. There are no further details yet as to who the new competition regulator in the UK is investigating or why. However, it is made pursuant to the Chapter II Prohibition of the Competition Act. The Chapter II Prohibition concerns abuse of a dominant position. The investigation with formal information gathering and discussions with the parties under investigation is expected to last until October, although the timetable may be subject to change.
